I am new to Beverly, MA. There are no black or Dominican Salons that I could find. Someone told me go to Union Street so I googled it and found Jay's Beauty Salon. I called because new town, new culture. In NYC, Dominican salons do only walk-ins. Not here. I made an appointment and I was set. For a Saturday appointment, I was ready to spend the whole day here because that is what I have always experienced but NOPE. I walked right into a chair with my stylist, Petronila. Don't steal my stylist but she is AWESOME. But as I look around, I think I would have been fine with anyone here. Everyone speaks English here, which wasn't the case in NYC all my years getting my hair done. For me, this makes my experience more personal. In NYC, Dominican Salons are like immersing in a culture. I am polite and learn the rules. But there isn't anything to learn here. It's just easy. My hair is washed, my scalp is so clean! It feels great. The shampoo chair is a recliner. I love recliners!
